Jonathan Burkis

Jonathan Burkis, son of Todd and Rayna Burkis, ranks 5th among 9 children. Inheriting a love for sports, he played flag football for many years before giving it up to concentrate more on basketball. He has played basketball and baseball, both on the Junior Varsity and Varsity levels, with Starkville Christian School.

Jonathan has participated in the Starkville Homeschool Music Co-op program from its beginning, singing in all three choirs and playing trumpet and drums in both bands. He enjoys hunting, fishing, hanging out with friends, and playing ball.

While he trusts God to lead him, he plans, after a short break from school, to go into ministry and hopes to one day be a coach. One of his favorite verses ”For I know the thoughts I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you a hope and future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

Jeremiah 29:11-13

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Proverbs 3:5-10

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
